What Do You Think About Society ?

What Do You Think About Society?
                         Human Nature Is Naturally Good
Human nature is the concept that there is a set of inherent distinguishing characteristics, including ways of thinking, feeling and acting that all humans tend to have. John Locke, an English philosopher views mankind as much more optimistic and non violent then fellow English philosopher, Thomas Hobbes. Locke sees men as being governed “according to reason,” and he also believed that ‘no one was born good or evil, but the society people grow up in influences their mortality.’ I too believe that mankind is naturally good, people make mistakes but that does not mean they are evil.
Rachael Ray's Holiday Gift to Animal Shelters
Rachael Ray, celebrity chef, donated all her pet food proceeds to animal shelters this holiday season. People everywhere are deciding whether or not they can feed their families and their pets this holiday season. Rachael said “If you want to look at the state of humans, you should look at the state of animals first.” Rachael Ray’s donations all across the U.S, have a total amount of $775,000 and are only being donating to no kill shelters, big or small. Although Rachael Ray and her husband do not have enough space for animals in their house, they hope to inspire people who do have space, to adopt a pet.
This article supports my view of human nature being good because although Rachael Ray could not directly adopt an animal and give it the care it needs, she tried to inspire people by donating $775 000 in food services to animals for the Christmas holidays. She could have realized she could not do anything and not take action but she decided to take action and help the animals in a different way.
Sandra Bullock Honored for Katrina Charity
On Friday, May, 15 2009, Sandra Bullock was entered into the New Orleans ‘Hall Of Fame’ after donating tens of thousands of dollars towards building the Warren Easton High School after hurricane Katrina hit and made $4 million dollars worth of damages. Bullock told PEOPLE magazine that she felt embarrassed by the U.S governments delayed reactions to New Orleans. Her donation didn’t only contribute to the rebuilding of the school, it also contributed to band uniforms and a school auditorium. Bullock believes that school is not all writing, reading and math, but it is also about what brings joy to the students and teachers. Music has also brought joy to New Orleans and she wanted to return that joy. Sandra Bullock did not want to take all the credit because many others were involved but money wise, but she said ‘it was the best investment she’s ever made.’
This article supports my view of human nature being good because hurricane Katrina did not directly affect Sandra Bullock, her family or probably even her home town or the current area she is living in, but she still helped. She donated tens of thousands of dollars towards a school that has no real benefit to her, but the joy of helping others has benefited her. Bullock didn’t help for attention or because someone forced her to, she did it out of the goodness of her heart.
